Allicin (Garlic extract)
Allium sativum
The most potent thing in this formula — at a fifth of the next best's concentration — and active against strains that resist antibiotics. The catch is processing: garlic aged for months in alcohol showed no activity at all, and boiling costs two to four fold.
What the evidence shows
Every line below is carried on the blend page that makes the claim. Follow it to the pathway and its sources.
Across 108 trials and 7,137 people, lowered total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides and raised HDL.
Slows coronary plaque in mice bred to grow it: cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL down, HDL up, the fat-damage marker down.
Allicin donates hydrogen sulfide, and hydrogen sulfide switches SIRT1 on by chemically modifying its zinc-finger domains — shown rigorously in mice bred without the enzyme that makes it. The rigor sits on the hydrogen-sulfide step; allicin's part is supplying the donor. Animal evidence.
Measured in people: a pooled analysis of over 100 human trials, backed by three further pooled analyses.
In a pooled analysis of randomized trials, garlic lowered diastolic blood pressure (9 trials) and triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (14 to 15 trials).
Head to head with a prescription chelator in 117 battery workers, garlic matched the drug in lowering blood lead.
