Superoxide dismutase
Superoxide dismutation to hydrogen peroxide
Also searched as Superoxide dismutation to hydrogen peroxide.
Three isoforms, three different Metals: SOD1 in cytosol needs copper and zinc, SOD2 in mitochondria needs manganese, SOD3 is extracellular. it does not remove the danger, it moves it — the product is hydrogen peroxide, which still requires catalase or a peroxidase to finish the job. SOD alone is not protection.
