Cold exposure response
Cold-induced thermogenesis

The balance here is dose, not direction. Brief cold is a hormetic stimulus — it is the shock, not the cold itself, that produces the adaptation. Extended exposure is simply hypothermia, and cold immediately after resistance training blunts the hypertrophy signal you trained for. Hormetic: brief cold drives pgc-1α and uncoupling-based thermogenesis, while unbounded cold is simply hypothermia. Brief and controlled is the point.
