The Coat Eraser
You want it held back during release. Deleting the messenger and quieting the kinase do not stop release by themselves; it only ends when these marks are erased, and this is the main enzyme that erases them from the coat. Insulin does not only delete the signal, it activates the eraser — a second, independent route to the same off-switch that works even when messenger levels are unchanged.
In depth
The phosphatase that strips the activating marks off the droplet coat — the predominant one for that job.
What drives it
Insulin sensitivity increases it.
A second, independent route to the off-switch. 'it has been demonstrated that insulin activates PP1, which dephosphorylates HSL and perilipins... Insulin exerts its anti-lipolytic effects, at least in part, by activating phosphatase and independent of its ability to lower cAMP level' (doi 10.3389/fphys.2022.826314). ⇒ Insulin deletes the message and activates the eraser. doi 10.3389/fphys.2022.826314
What it drives
It reduces Fat droplet coating.
'PP1 also constitutes the predominant perilipin phosphatase in adipocytes' (doi 10.3389/fphys.2022.826314). The source does not overclaim: 'definitive proof remains elusive and likely requires a cell model lacking PP1 activity. In fact, PP1, PP2A and PP2C all have a significant activity against HSL.'. doi 10.3389/fphys.2022.826314
