What is behind Hunger & Food Cravings
The signal that a meal is enough. Most published studies measure hunger and AgRP drive â satiety's absence â so their direction is read inverted here, and that is said openly. Evidence A — Human trial evidence.
The hunger signal from an empty stomach — the best-known circulating hormone that increases appetite. Evidence A — Human trial evidence.
Cholecystokinin — released by the upper small intestine when fat and protein arrive, it slows the stomach and tells the brain the meal is done. Evidence A — Human trial evidence.
The satiety hormone from fat tissue. The decisive fact: in common obesity leptin is high, not low â the problem is resistance to the signal, so replacement logic fails. The evidence shows the case where it worked and the disqualifier beside it. Evidence B — Preclinical.
The central appetite and pigmentation relay. Downstream of leptin, it is where the satiety signal is actually read — which is why leptin resistance shows up here rather than at the fat cell.
Evidence on these pathways
Melanocortin (MC4R) Signaling → Female Desire & Arousal. “Studies showed improvements in desire, arousal, and orgasm scores when 1.75 mg of bremelanotide was administered before sexual activity compared to a placebo.” — Bremelanotide for Treatment of Female Hypoactive Sexual Desire. Neurology International, 2022, vol 14, issue 1, pages 75-88. doi:10.3390/neurolint14010006
Ghrelin → Satiety. “This peptide hormone was identified a decade ago as a stimulator of food intake and to date remains the only known peripherally produced and centrally acting orexigenic hormone.” — Ghrelin – a pleiotropic hormone secreted from endocrine X/A-like cells of the stomach. Frontiers in Neuroscience, 2012 (16 February), vol 6, 24. doi:10.3389/fnins.2012.00024

What this page does not claim
This page names the pathways involved and the published evidence on each. It does not claim that any formula treats, cures or prevents Hunger & Food Cravings. A pathway opens here only on graded, published evidence, under a standard fixed before the evidence was gathered, and every figure above carries its grade.
